How to Become Involved..?Internship Opportunities...

Opportunity Knocks!
You'll Be Surprised by What You Get From Giving.

Are you looking for a fun way to gain experience and develop professional skills for your future career?

We are looking for some upbeat people to provide companionship for children, teens, and adults with disabilities such as mental retardation. Have fun doing social and recreational activities- go to the movies, play miniature golf, go to a sports event, shopping, or just get together to enjoy each other's company. Give parents a break by providing safety and supervision.

Flexible hours! Earn an hourly rate, gain experience, and develop your skills for a future profession in teaching others to be independent. Support the community where you live!

Must have your own transportation and be at least 18 years of age. No experience necessary. For information contact Carolyn DaVia at cdavia@contactefr.org or call (315) 478-1462 x329.

Do you already have experience you'd like to put to work supporting individuals with disabilities? If so, tell Carolyn when you contact her!

Internship Opportunities...

Residential Habilitation: The student will provide direct service for a particular individual enrolled in this program. This will include quality assurance/evaluation site visits by the program coordinator to assess the intern's work with the participant. A template for this quality check has been completed. Contact Karen Bradley at kbradley@contactefr.org or call (315) 478-1462 x316.

Recreation: The Recreation Department of Exceptional Family Resources has opportunities for students to learn about recreation services for people who have developmental disabilities. We provide services to school-aged youth by collaborating with area neighborhood centers, like the Boys and Girls Clubs, and area high schools to support youth who have disabilities in integrated after-school programs. We also match individuals with students for one-to-one recreation experiences in the community. Students who intern in EFR's Recreation Department also have the opportunity to learn about several administrative aspects of our Recreation Department. Students may be exposed to hiring and training processes, volunteer service management, recruitment, program development, and networking with schools and recreation centers, as well as planning events. If interested, contact Kelly Diemond at kdiemond@contactefr.org or call (315) 478-1462 x314.
